Archeological Metro-Museum

Proposed in the 1910s, planned in the 1980s, construction began in 2006 and after years of delays due to the financial crisis and archaeological excavations, the EU's newest metro system finally opened in Thessaloniki in November 30, 2024. Out of 13 stops, 5 are museum-stations, with this one being the most impressive, as it shows the marble Roman Decumanus Maximus (the main east-west avenue) along with shops, houses, and columns found under Egnatia street. This discovery was so major that the metro project was delayed and redesigned to run deeper to accommodate leaving this discovery in situ.
